Chai Tea Friday! (with a twist)

Peppermint Cocoa Chai

It’s Friday which means it’s time to brew up some chai.

Today we crushed some cocoa nibs and added some peppermint and stevia to our Chai tea blend.  The result is an amazingly mellow, cooling mint, spicy chai which really matches the mood today.

Chai isn’t just for lattes

Don’t get me wrong here, I love a chai tea latte, especially when it gets dirty with a shot of espresso, but sometimes I don’t want that heavy of a drink.  This is one of the reasons we like to experiment with our Chai tea blend and see what we can come up with sans steamed milk and foam.

More teas and things on Saturday

We are really looking forward to attending this year’s Aberdeen Founders Day Parade and Street Fair.  We will have some of our loose tea as well as a few of our custom blends,   We are also bringing our remedies, essential oils, and other healing products.

There will be a lot of other great vendors, music, and food. Hope to see you there!

Spicy, Zesty Rooibos Chai Tea

It’s Chai Tea Friday

We have a wonder Chai tea blend that we get from our vendor but every so often I decide to do something completely off the wall and make up a special blend of Chai that is spicy, sweet, tangy, and delicious.

When you want spicy use Thai chilies

Thai ChiliesThat is right I spiced up this blend with just a little part of a Thai chili pepper.  These peppers add wonderful heat and taste to Thai dishes and they don’t disappoint with our Chai.

Chili peppers, in general, have wonderful health benefits that we should all be taking advantage of, among them are blood pressure regulation, pain relief, clears sinuses, boosts the immune system, and more.

A Recipe for Flavor Explosion

Spicy, Zesty Rooibos Chai TeaOkay, enough of me going on about health benefits and the such as I am sure you are wondering what else we put in here besides peppers and Rooibos tea.  Here is the recipe which we brewed three times in our 16 oz French press:

  • 3 tsp. Rooibos tea
  • 1 tsp. Coriander
  • 1.5″ Cinnamon stick
  • 2 Star Anise seeds
  • 2 Cardamom pods
  • 1/4 Thai Chili pepper
  • 3/4 tsp. Stevia leaf
  • 1/2 tsp. Galangal root
  • 1/4 tsp. Cumin
  • 2 strips of fresh Lemon peel

Add the Rooibos, Thai chili, Stevia leaf, Galangal root, and Lemon peel to the French press.
Put the Coriander, Cinnamon, Star Anise seeds, Cardamom pods, and Cumin in your mortar and pestle and lightly mash them until they are broken up, then add them to the French press.
Add water that has been brought up to about 80 degrees Celsius, let this steep for about 5 minutes before pressing.

We hope you have a fantastic weekend and if you are coming out to the beach be sure to stop by Westport for their Weekend with the Fleet event.  We will be there with our lotions, sunscreen, essential oils, and more.

Happy Friday, It’s Time For Some Chai!

Our tradition continues with our great Chai tea blend, mandarin peel, and lemongrass.  We love the combination of Chai and mandarin, in case you couldn’t tell, and today decided to add lemongrass to enhance the health benefits of our tea.

If you want more than a sample we can prepare a cup for you at our new tea service, just ask for the tea of the day.  We are also happy to have some new 12oz French presses that are perfect for brewing tea or coffee at home.

Chai Tea Friday

It’s Friday so that means we are brewing Chai tea today.  We decided to go a little outside the box and added some cocoa nibs along with the fresh mandarin peel.  The effect is a little unexpected as it tames the spiciness of the chai just a bit and finishes with a delightful citrus note.

We are also filling out our shelves with more bulk oils and just added some Myrrh essential oil to our collection.

Chai Tea Friday and New Salt Scrubs

Happy Friday, we hope you are getting ready for a fantastic weekend!
Today we have 5 grams of our Chai tea blend with 1 gram of stevia leaf and mandarin peel which has made an 8 cup pot for 30 cents plus the mandarin, which doubled as an after breakfast snack.

Also, we have our newly reformulated salt scrubs in stock.  As you may recall we made the decision to stop using Dead Sea salt as that resource is not being treated properly.  Our new formula uses Pacific Sea Salt, Himalayan Pink Salt, and Epsom salt.  This combination affords plenty of minerals and nutrients and all are sustainably sourced from a facility right here in Washington state.

Mandarin, Stevia, and Chai Tea Today

Keeping with our Chai Tea Friday theme we decided to mix it up a little bit and added some fresh mandarin peel and stevia leaf to our chai tea blend.
We have been amazed by the flavor of our chai tea blend and are looking forward to tasting how the mandarin enhances it with its vibrant citrus fruitiness.

If you have had stevia leaf extract and found it too sweet you will be pleased that using the leaf itself lends its sweetness to your tea but is not as overpowering as the extract.  We have used this a few times with other teas and our herbal infusions and it has become our favorite replacement for sugar and other sweeteners for brewed beverages.
